Katie died at sixteen; and got brought back to life five minutes later. Told she was to work as a "Spirit Bridge" and told she was to spend the next thousand years keeping the spirit world and human world apart.

She took this about as well as a sixteen year old girl could be expected to. There was cursing; and rebellion. And a lot of running away.

That was about two years ago. She isn't much happier about it now than she was then, though she has at least mastered her powers: Floating, flying, possessing others, turning invisible... and transforming people. Most specifically, she can transform any male into a female. (Other transformations are possible, but she requires a DNA sample to use as a template, and the default is to use herself.)

Her job mostly involves hunting ghosts and monsters from the underworld that invade the human world... while simultaneously appeasing the wills of the seemingly insane death goddess who assigned this position.

That includes things from heaven, by the way. Angels and demons, in particular, tend to send her into overdrive beserker Hunter mode. Whether it represents good or evil doesn't matter - if it's about causing death, or stopping iot, that's even worse. Anything that puts strain on the already weakened barriers between life and death heeds to go back where it came from.
